The Soul Mate Spell part 6

Colin stood outside of Amber's hotel room.  He considered turning around and never looking back, but he was no coward.  He had to face the demon, so to speak.  He knew his morning would be horrible and he hoped to get it over with as soon as he could. He knocked on the door.

"Come in." was the sniffled reply.  He could hear her very well through the door.  He knew she was acting, and doing a very loud job of it.

Colin opened the door.  His eyes were immediately drawn to Amber as she reclined on the sofa in a very little nightie.  She had swollen eyes and a was rubbing a tissue under her nose.  She looked up at Colin and stretched out her arms for him to come to her.  Colin stood in the doorway and watched her for a moment.  He couldn't believe he ever wanted to marry her.  Just looking at her now, especially since Mike had confirmed his suspicions, made him want to puke.  Colin began to turn away.

"Colin!" she shrieked   "Come here right now.  I need you!  You don't know how hard these last few days have been without you.  Please, come hold me."

"Amber, I'm sorry I wasn't here when you were admitted to the hospital, but please, stop this game.  I know for a fact that you were never pregnant with my baby.  I also know you haven't been lonely since I've been away.  You know I only came back to you because of the baby.  I think I need to leave now."  Colin turned to walk out of the door.

Amber, who was very fast when she needed to be, ran to him and slammed the door before he could leave.  She then threw herself on the floor at his feet and wrapped herself around him.

"No, you can't mean that, Colin.  You have to stay with me.  What will I do without you?  You know I can't handle my life without you.  I need you to take care of me.  We can have a baby.  We can start trying now.  I just love you so much.  I'm so sorry I hurt you.  Ramone isn't important to me.  You are.  Please, don't leave me!"

Colin tried to pry Amber off of his legs.  She had wrapped herself completely around him and was crying into his pants' leg.  Colin had to stop and count to 20.  He was losing his patience quickly.  After one last try to remove her physically, he decided the best thing to do was to get down on the floor with her.  He hated seeing her cry, and these tears did seem genuine.  He sat down and began to pat her back.  After a few moments, Amber began to calm down.

In between gulps of air she tried to tell him how much she needed him.  Colin was almost swayed.  Amber's tears had always had a strange affect upon him, but he was determined to stay withdrawn.  After another ten minutes, Amber seemed able to stand and walk back to the sofa.  Colin helped her and sat down as far from her as the sofa would allow.

"Amber, I'm sorry.  I just can't live this way anymore.  I need someone I can trust in my life.  You're young and beautiful.  Men all over the world fall for you.  You don't need me, I'm just convenient.  In a moment I am going to leave.  I am not coming back, so please don't try any more schemes.  Stay off the pills and try to take care of yourself."

"But Colin, you're the only one who can help me.  I can't take care of myself.  You've always been the one to protect me, even from myself."

"I can't be that person anymore, Amber. I think it's time that I leave now.  Please don't follow me out.  We don't have anything else to say."  Colin stood and walked to the door.

"Don't be surprised if you hear I'm dead, Colin.  You know I can't live without you." Amber threatened, but Colin knew it was a bluff.  Amber was too self-possessed and in love with her self to take her own life.  He did worry about her drug use, but he also knew he couldn't be the one to stop her.  Not now, or ever again.  Colin walked out the door and didn't look back.

Colin checked out of his hotel and returned to the airport.  Amber had tried calling several times, but he didn't answer her calls. He boarded his plane and flew back home.  Aruba and Amber were no longer his problem.  He only wished that he didn't feel anything but relief.  He had loved Amber, or at least he thought he had.  Now he was just confused.  Picking up his briefcase, he began to look over a new deal he had in the works. Eventually, he forgot about the Amber ordeal and began to relax.

Brianna worked hard the following week.  She tried to bring her lunch to work everyday so she didn't have to spend time with anyone else during lunch.  One of her cubical mates, Dan, questioned her several times if she was doing okay.  He tried to convince her to leave the office and have lunch with some of their friends from work.  She had thanked him, but lamely showed him her lunch she had brought from home.  She had told him it was a new diet and going out to lunch was just too tempting.  She hoped it would convince him to leave her alone.  He tried a couple more times, but finally gave up.  He could tell something was bothering her, but he realized she wouldn't share any details with him.

One night after work, Brianna decided to straighten her apartment.  She wasn't actually a slob, but she did tend to get a little cluttered from time to time.  Cleaning was one of those mindless things she could do when something was bothering her.  She would scrub the bathroom and talk to herself.  As she was straightening her bedroom, she came across THE BOOK.  The one that had gotten her into this big mess in the first place.
She was quite certain the spell didn't work, but this had been the book she had her nose in when she had bumped into Colin that day at the book store.  She almost threw it into the waste can, but something made her open it instead.

"Chapter Ten. What to Do When Your Spell Isn't Working."

"Hmm, I don't remember reading this chapter before," she thought.  "Whatever." and she threw it into the waste can anyway.  Only it didn't fall in.  Instead it landed on the floor and opened to chapter 10.  "No way. This can't be happening."

Once again she picked it up and threw it into the trash, but the book wouldn't cooperate.  It landed beside the can again, and chapter 10 was there waiting for her to read.  She gave up, and decided this must be a sign.  She picked up the book, and walked into the bathroom.  She decided that she might as well take a long bath and read what chapter 10 needed to say.  And actually, she was curious.  Something strange was happening.  She went to the kitchen and poured herself a glass of Zinfandel, then went back to the tub.  After a couple of minutes lying with her eyes closed, she decided it was time to find out what she could do if her spell wasn't working.

"So you're spell isn't working." she read.  "The are a number of reasons why this could be the truth.  Did you perform the ritual as written?  Did you use the correct candles and herbs?  Were you alone and concentrating?  Did you take the time to visualize the place your soul mate would meet you?  If you answered yes to these questions, then you need to give your spell the time it needs to manifest into your life.  If you answered no to even one, you may need to take a few minutes and concentrate.  Re-visualize the spot where your lover will come to you.  Put this thought into your mind.  Concentrate on the way your special spot feels, smells and sounds.  What do you see?  Are there birds in the air?  Do you feel the wind?  Are you naked?  Can you feel the breath of the one you have invited to your special spot?  Do you hear your soul mate's breathing in your ear?  Close your eyes and see your soul mate.Do not put a face to your soul mate, but see your soul mate's body as it slides next to yours.  Feel the warm breath of life.  Feel the soft touch of a hand as it encircles yours.  Hear the slow rhythmic breathing and slow yours to match it."

Brianna read the words on the page.  Yes, she had followed the spell to the letter.  She had used the correct candles and herbs.  She had spoken the words.  She had even created a beautiful waterfall with a small pond.  She started to think about her special spot.  She thought about the large rock where she waited in the sunlight for her soul mate to arrive.  She started to hear as he swam to her across the pond.  She felt as he climbed up beside her on the warm rock.  She didn't try to see his face.  She listened to his breathing and tried to match hers to the same rhythm   Her breathing became shallow and slow.  She felt him touch her arm and then slide his fingers slowly up to her shoulders.  She felt him lift her long hair away from her neck.  She felt his hands caress her skin as he slowly removed her glasses from her face.  She heard him breathing into her ear as he began to kiss the soft skin behind it.  She shivered.  The next moment, she found herself lying in her tub.  The water was beginning to cool.  Bemused, she rose and reached for her towel.  The book was no longer on the side of the tub.  In fact, it was not there at all.  She left the bathroom, and walked into her bedroom.  Lying down, she fell quickly into a deep sleep.  Her dreams that night were wonderfully erotic. She couldn't see the face of her lover, but she knew his soul.  When her alarm woke her the next morning, she  jerked awake.  For a few crazy moments, she didn't know where she was.  Once reality hit, as it always does with a blaring alarm, she got  out of bed and walked to the shower.  Passing her mirror, she glanced at herself.  What she saw practically made her jump out of her skin.  Below her right ear she found a small red mark.  The crazy thing was, she didn't remember hurting herself.  Stranger still, it looked like a hickey.  She had never had one in her life, but she had seen a few on her best friend in high school.

"Oh My God, " she said out loud as she reached for the sink to hold her up.  All at once, her memory of her visualization and her dreams during the night came rushing back.  Brianna began to blush.  And then she began to giggle and couldn't stop.

Brianna had a wonderful day at work.  Even Dan couldn't believe the change in her.  He tried to get it out of her, but he finally quit trying.  At least she didn't seem so down anymore. He'd take that any day.

When Colin got home from the airport that night, he went straight to bed.  The next morning, he woke from a night filled with dreams of Brianna.  And these weren't dreams like he had had when he was a teenager.  These were the dreams of a man who wanted a woman badly.  He woke needing a cold shower and a large cup of coffee.  He decided right then it was time to call Brianna.  If a relationship with her could be even close to his dreams from the night before, then he would be a very happy man!
