Colin dreaded seeing Amber. He knew she would be very needy, if it was true that she had lost their baby. Truthfully, Colin wasn't really upset about that fact. There was just something about Amber's behavior that made the whole thing seem untrue. Colin decided to find out for himself . As soon as he hung up the phone with Amber, he called his friend Mike. He was a private investigator. The same friend who showed Colin the pictures of Amber and her "friend" Ramone.
"Hey, Mike, it's Colin. I have a little job for you," Colin said into his cell phone as he prepared to leave.
Within a couple of hours, Colin was on his way to the airport and Aruba. Mike had promised to get right on the investigation. He told Colin that Amber's reactions to losing a baby sounded suspicious to him too. He planned to call the hospital in Aruba and speak to her doctors. He should know something by the time Colin arrived in Aruba. Colin knew his friend would get to the bottom of this entire mess. Colin decided there was nothing he could do but wait.
Brianna's night of ice cream bliss was not as fulfilling as she had hoped. She had spent the evening shoveling mint chocolate chip ice cream down her throat hoping the ice cream would help her drown out her feelings. No such luck. It didn't help that the entertainment shows were all talking about the Colin/Amber situation. Someone had let the news leak out that they were expecting a baby. Well, Brianna already knew that, but it was the news that Amber allegedly had lost the baby that had Brianna on the edge of her seat. She dropped her spoon back into her bowl of ice cream and sat on the couch stunned by the news.
After a couple of minutes staring into space, Brianna groaned. What would this mean for Colin and Amber's relationship, and would it matter to Brianna? Would this devastating news bring the couple closer together or cause an even larger rift in their relationship? Inquiring minds wanted to know, especially Brianna's.
Brianna decided ice cream wasn't the soother it was reputed to be, so she gave up and went to bed. At least she didn't have any weird dreams of Colin as a new daddy or Amber sneering at her. Maybe too much ice cream can cause comas!
Colin arrived in Aruba just as the sun was appearing over the eastern horizon. Having a private jet was something he loved about his life. He didn't think he could ever survive a commercial airline. He needed his space and privacy. Thank goodness, his jet allowed for both.
After landing, Colin took a shuttle to his hotel. He wanted a few hours of alone time with his thoughts before he called Amber and the weeping began. The more he thought about it, the less he enjoyed her temper or whining. Once he was so enamored of her looks and those long legs that he overlooked her behavior. Now he knew she would do anything or say anything to get what she wanted. He just couldn't figure out why she was playing a game like this. Why a baby? And why "lose" the child? If she really had lost this baby, then he would do whatever it took to help her over the pain of losing a baby. But something in the back of his mind cried out that this was all a ruse. Something to make him take her back. Colin decided to take a hot shower. He'd call Mike when he was done.
Colin had just stepped out of the shower when his phone began to ring. He picked it up and read "Mike Miller" on the screen. He answered immediately.
"Hey, Mike. What ya got?"
"Well, have I got some news for you. It seems your little Amber has been very busy at the hospital, but not for pregnancy. She has been admitted a couple of times for dehydration and too many pills. The doctor said she was tested for pregnancy each time she was admitted to the ER, but neither time was positive. He also said she was not admitted for a D&C after losing a baby. It appears your little darling has been playing you for a fool." Mike said.
"I'm not surprised, Mike. I had a feeling there was something not right about this situation. Thanks for your time. Now I have to figure out how to handle the little liar and get out of this relationship for good."
"That sounds like the right course of action, Colin. I'm glad I'm not in your shoes. By the way, the doctor did say that both times Amber was admitted, she was with a young Italian man. He thought he was her boyfriend. He supplied that information without being asked. Looks like Amber isn't really missing you. Good luck, man. Talk to ya soon." Mike said before ending the phone call.
Colin knew he should be angry about this news, but for some reason, he was just tired. He didn't really care about Amber's lover or her lies. He just wanted out. Just then, a face popped into his head. One that was obscured by huge glasses. He knew then that he had to get out of this mess with Amber as soon as possible. He needed to go find Brianna. He still became angry when he thought about Brianna kissing that tall Russian guy on the beach, but he also knew she was single and allowed to do whatever she wanted. It was time he started going for someone he knew he really could enjoy being around. Someone who knocked his socks off when she removed those horrible glasses.
Colin waited another hour before calling Amber.
"Colin, you're here already?" Amber crooned into the phone. I've missed you so much. Please come to my hotel room. I need you to hold me. This has been the worst experience of my life. I need your arms around me. Please hurry!" Amber hung up the phone before Colin could even reply. She knew he would be right over. Luckily she had sent Ramone home an hour before. What a wonderful lover he was. She stretched her back as she thought about all the wonderful things they had done to each other the night before. Yes, she would have Colin and all the lovers she wanted. Colin was in the palm of her hand. All she had to do was take off her beautiful nightie. She knew he couldn't resist her when she wanted to make love. Two men in one 24 hour period. She would be sore tomorrow, but this was worth all of her efforts. Amber looked into her mirror, ran her fingers across her eyes to make them seem red and swollen, then smelled some black pepper to make herself sneeze. That would make her nose seem to be running as if she had cried all morning. She knew Colin had a soft heart, and losing a baby should break him into a thousand pieces. She knew just what to do to put him back together.
