Witch girl chapter 12

Kieran stalked out of the room.  He knew it, she was as fickle as any woman he'd ever met.  Falling for someone else because he hadn't saved her himself.  And to think he was the one who had risked his sanity and found the old crone in the forest just to bring her back to him.

All of a sudden, Kieran heard an eerie laugh coming from the room he'd just left.  One that made the hairs on his neck rise.  Something was wrong. All he could think was that he needed to return to Selena. He ran back to her chamber and pushed the door opened.  "Selena, what is it?" he asked, but she wasn't in the room.  The crone's voice had stopped laughing, and he couldn't find the woman anywhere.  "Selena, where are you?" he yelled.  His heart was racing, and he was frantically searching every corner of her room.

"What has come over you?  Are you crazy, man?  Why are you here in the laird's chamber?  Who are you?  Get out at once before I throw you out on your arse.  Go now!" the guard who had lead him to Selena's chamber was glaring at Kieran as if Kieran had lost his mind.

"The girl, Selena, where is she?"

"What girl?  The laird has had no woman since his own wife died over a year ago.  Wait, you're that harpist I turned away at the gate.  Didn't I tell you we didn't need your kind here.  Go now before you end up in chains."

Kieran didn't need another reason to leave.  Although he was stunned and confused by what the man had said, it was obvious that the man did not know Selena.  As Kieran turned to leave the chamber a raspy voice said, "She is where she belongs. Only you can find her now." Then the voice began to laugh.  The man began to cross himself as he ran from the room.

"I told the laird his chamber was haunted," he said to no one as he rushed past Kieran.

Kieran found Rory in the arms of the serving wench, and told him they needed to leave immediately.  The laird had decided their stay was at an end.  Wrenching on his clothes, Rory turned to the girl, gave her a wink and said, "Next time, sweet. Until next time." He tipped his head to her and left the room.

Kieran was quiet as they saddled their horses and prepared to leave.  No one came to stop them or offer help.  The keep was locked tight behind them and the gate closed forcefully as they rode into the night.

After a few miles were behind them, Rory asked Kieran to explain what had happened.  All Kieran could say was, "She's gone."  Rory didn't know what Kieran meant by his remark, but he could see it upset the harpist, so he let it be.

Kieran thought about the events of the evening for some time.  He hadn't planned where to travel that night, but he realized they were on their way toward the wood where he had met the old crone.  Answers, he needed answers, "And she damn well better give them," he thought.

Selena awoke in her bed.  What time was it?  She had had the strangest most wonderful dream.  Too bad she always woke right at the good parts.  It was that man again.  The one she had dreamed about for so many years.  "Kieran" popped into her head.  'What a lovely name for such a beautiful man," she thought.  Outside her door, she heard a woman laughing.  Only it was like the tinkling of a chime.  So lyrical.  The sound gave her goose bumps.  She got out of her bed and walked to her window.  No one was around on this lovely morning.  "It must be around 9 o'clock," she thought and went into her bathroom for a shower.

After getting dressed, she called her friend, Julie.  They had plans to go shopping at the mall for new Fall dresses.  Selena really wanted a pair of black riding boots also.  She loved shopping days.  Saturdays were always so fast, but usually she made the most of her weekends.  After arranging a time to meet Julie, Selena went into the den and turned on the TV.

Selena didn't watch a lot of TV, but occasionally she enjoyed watching home improvement shows.  As she scanned the channels, she came across an entertainment weekly show.  Although most celebrities did nothing for her, she decided to see what was happening in the lives of the rich and famous.

Mainly she saw stories of people with too much money and time on their hands.  The silly things they did to get mentioned on a show like this were incredible.  So ridiculous.

Selena was watching as the reporter told of one of the newest singers in the Pop scene.  She was tall and blond, with a body most men found amazing.  Selena didn't have a body like that. "Not that mine is that bad, just a little short." she thought.  The blond bomb shell was on the arm of the most amazing gentleman, or so the reporter said.  Selena, who had looked away for a moment, returned her eyes to the set.  And couldn't believe her eyes!

Kieran Ferguson, a Scottish singer who was new to the American music scene, was the man on her arm.  "Veronica Rothchild has fine taste in men, don't you think Laura?" the reporter said to another reporter.

"Yes, very, very fine.  I plan to watch that man's career, and a few other things..." Laura the reporter said as she changed to the next tidbit of information.

Selena turned off the TV and sat in silence.  Why is the man of her dream on some entertainment show, and why is he with that awful warbly singer, Veronica Rothchild?  She immediately went to her computer and looked up the Scottish singer on the internet.

Kieran Ferguson, a musician from Scotland who had just had his first hit, "Witch Girl," released in the UK.  He was known as a singer/songwriter in the Indy world.  He was touring in the States.  Atlanta was on his tour.  Selena had a feeling she'd better call her sister and make arrangements.  She was going to see this singer/songwriter if it killed her.  For some reason, her heart was racing so badly, she felt as if it was killing her.

Kieran searched for the old woman's cabin.  Rory, who was tired of Kieran's strange mumblings about a lost girl named Selena, had left Kieran several days after the incident at the castle.

Kieran, who was finally at his wits end, laid down in a field of flowers and gave up.  The old woman was no where to be found.  Crying out his frustration, he cursed the old woman for the mess he was in.  Something came over him.  One moment he was lying in a field of flowers and the next he woke in a hotel room.

Kieran, woke suddenly.  He was not sure what had happened.  Sunlight was shining in his eyes, and his head was pounding.  "Oh, yeah.  Veronica and her parties.'

Kieran had spent the evening at one of Veronica's friends' house.  She seemed to have a large number of friends, but he didn't care much for them.  He remembered taking a cab back to his hotel.  He must have drank way too much, because his head was hurting worse than it had ever hurt before.

Getting out of bed, Kieran reached for his phone.  It had been ringing, which is why he was awake in the first place.  He had a message, so he dialed voice mail.

"Hey, man.  It's Stan. Jill and I will be at the gig in Atlanta.   Can't wait to see you!  It's been a long time. How's Veronica.  Hope she'll be with you.  We'd love to meet her. Talk to ya later."  Stan had said and hung up.

Kieran went to take a shower.  Maybe the hot water would clear his head.  For some reason, he kept thinking about a short brunette named Selena and a castle in Scotland.  He even felt the memory of a harp in his hands.  "Strange.  Maybe I need another drink to get over this weird hang over," he thought as he removed his clothes and stepped into the steamy water.

He would be in Atlanta in a couple of days, without Veronica.  She had made that perfectly clear the night before when he found her wrapped around an actor friend of hers.  "Whatever, good riddance." he thought as he rinsed the shampoo from his hair.  If he had to hear one more of her horrible love songs crooned in his ear........, the thought gave him the willeys.  Now she was singing them to another guy.  "Thank God."
