Witch Girl: Chapter 6

When Kieran came to, he was standing in a hallway kissing a girl with long blond hair. He didn't know where he was or who she was. A minute ago he had been kissing Selena. She was small, with dark hair, not tall and blond. What happened? At that moment he blacked out and slid down the wall. The girl began to scream and men came rushing into the hallway.

"Are you alright, man? Wake up. Someone get a glass of water." a man said.

A few minutes later, Kieran found himself on the floor, soaked from a glass of water thrown into his face. He smiled weakly at the people gathered around him, and a man helped him to stand.

"Thank you, I'm not sure what just happened to me. I believe I will retire to my room." he said as memories of where he was began to return to him. He didn't look at the girl, because he knew he had no explanation for why he wasn't interested in touching her again. Tonight he'd sleep alone. It was fine with him. He turned in the direction of his room, and left the puzzled people behind him.

The girl stood there with a look of indignation of her face. How dare he walk away from her. "He'll wish he hadn't left me out here with these people without a good reason for being alone with him." she thought and began to explain that she had wandered into the hallway looking for the garderobe and saw the bard as he fell to the ground. That's when she had called for help. It seemed to satisfy the crowd, which included her father, who was looking at her with a strongly suspicious look. "Yes, the bard would pay for this."  And somehow, she would make the man hers.

Selena was still in shock from Kieran's disappearance. She had screamed until her voice was raw. Then she cried. Stan had helped her to a bar stool, and rubbed her hair as he said soothing words to her.

The man at the bar had been watching as the two lovers kissed. What he saw then made him pay his tab and leave. "I have to quit drinking so much," he thought to himself, "I'm beginning to see things." He left as quickly as he could, and walked home.

Stan and Jill were both in shock also. Jill had screamed too, as Kieran faded, yes faded, away before her eyes. This couldn't be true. After helping Stan calm Selena, the three of them sat at the bar and stared into space. No one said a word. After a few minutes, Stan went to the door, turned the sign to "Closed," and began to turn off the main lights. He then returned to the bar and stared at the bottles lining the shelves.

"What just happened," he finally uttered quietly. "How can a man just disappear? There has to be an explanation."

Unfortunately, neither of his companions had one to give. Stan stood, walked around the bar and made them each a stiff shot of Jameson's whiskey. They each sipped their drinks and decided they each needed a few more before they decided to retire to their apartment above the bar. They offered for Selena to stay the night. They decided they would each try to sleep and then they could discuss what had happened in the morning. It was a bad night for each of them.
