Selena was in a mood. She couldn't quite put her finger on it. She had been agitated all day. Tonight was Kieran Ferguson's concert. Why did she feel like she had seen him in concert before? She played through her memories of Kieran, what little there were. She really didn't even know who he was. He was new to the American music scene, and unless her art students were telling her about some new Indy band they were listening to, she wasn't too hip on new music. She just didn't have the time.
Well, it was time to get ready. She contemplated what she should wear. She had brought several of her new Fall dresses along, just in case. She finally chose a grey sweater dress that clung to her cures, or whatever you call a stick body with boobs, and her new pair of riding boots. She put on some mascara and a little lipstick and called herself done. Anyway, she doubted she would get close enough to see him, let alone talk to the guy.
Thinking about talking to a rock star, or whatever he was, brought back some memories of meeting other famous people. She never had the right thing to say and usually said something smart-assed anyway. Not the best first impression to give someone. Well, no big deal, she was just going to see some guy who had gotten under her skin for some unknown reason. She didn't think she'd get closer than 50 feet of him anyway.
Valery yelled up the stairs to see if Selena was ready to go. Usually, Valery was the one who primped in front of the mirror for too long. Selena just didn't have the time. Makeup and Selena didn't coexist well. Talk about bad allergic reactions when she was younger, man, those were not fun. So not a lot of makeup for her, but tonight she fiddled with her hair, put on more lipstick, and wiped it off, added more mascara. What in the world was going on with her? She must be crazy.
"Yeah, I'm coming down. Be right there." Selena yelled back, then picked up her purse and headed downstairs.
The drive to the venue was a long one. It always was, since Atlanta traffic was so horrible any day of the week. The Braves were playing a home game, so the traffic was even worse as they neared downtown. They were heading to some little bar that had music on the weekends. Since the laws had changed, the place wouldn't be smoky, just dark, according to Valery. Selena hadn't been there before, so she just took her for her word.
Valery had to find a place to park. There were lots of young kids who were waiting at a neighboring place to see some other band Selena hadn't really heard before. There was a long line, so they were obviously pretty popular with the under 25 crowd.
Valery finally found a place in a garage down the street. Selena and Valery walked to the bar. People were milling around the front door. A girl came out and informed them they needed to move to the door around the corner. Somehow, Valery and Selena were first in line when the crowd moved to the side door. They stood and talked casually with some of the people behind them. Selena just listened as her sister told the couple behind them all about Atlanta's music scene. She was very up to date on who was hot and who wasn't. After what seemed like a long time, but probably wasn't more than 20 minutes or so, a man came walking across the street toward the side entrance. Selena couldn't really see who it was, because the sun was setting and shining into her eyes. Other people behind her started saying things to him, so she figured out quickly he was Kieran Ferguson. He stopped in front of the door and turned to answer one of the people behind her, looked down at her and his eyes raised, his mouth made an O, and he shook his head as if to clear it. He quickly answered the guy's question and went into the bar.
Selena just stood there in shock. Man, her knees almost gave. She was about to faint. She wasn't a fainter she thought, as she swooned into her sister. Valery caught her and pushed her back into a standing position. Someone behind her laughed, a light tinkling sound which made the hairs in her arms rise. Something was wrong here, but what?
Kieran couldn't get the girl out of his mind. Who was she? It was if he'd known her before, but other than strange memories from his dreams of a short brown haired girl, he didn't remember ever meeting her before. A few people who worked at the bar were walking around checking to make sure everything was ready. Kieran went behind the stage and started taking his guitar out of its case.
"I told you she was where she belonged. Now it's up to you. I have done all I can, Kieran, remember.........." an old woman's voice said from behind him. He turned quickly to see if he could see her, but no one was there.
"Remember, remember what?" he thought, as he sat staring at the dingy orange stage curtain. But something was niggling at his mind. Something he couldn't explain. He began to see himself in a similar situation. He saw her, Selena, that's right, Selena, at a bar similar to this one sometime before. He saw himself, holding her in a hotel room. He saw Stan and Jill in their bar in Memphis, and Selena was there. He was kissing her. SELENA, yes he knew, he knew who she was and why he had these weird thoughts about a petite brunette. He rose from his chair. He had to get down the stairs to her. He ran to the stairway that led to the entrance where she was waiting. He slowed down so he wouldn't break his neck. Right before he pulled open the door, he leaned against the wall and drew a few calming breaths. It was her. She was here and now it was up to him. The old crone had returned them both to the 21st century. He couldn't believe it. This was the wildest ride he'd ever been on. Something he would never be able to explain to anyone, except her. She had been there too.
Kieran took one more deep breath, let it out slowly, and opened the door. There she was, standing by her sister, who was talking with the people behind her. Kieran took a chance and said, "Hello. Do you think you could come with me for a minute or two? I need some help upstairs."
"Wha....what? You need my help?" Selena asked, stupidly. "Go figure," she thought, because she never said the right things. "I'm sure someone else might be able to help you." she suggested, not really knowing why helping him was scaring her to death.
"No, I need your help. Please, come with me. By the way, I'm Kieran."
"I'm Selena, it's nice to meet you."
He held out his hand to her, and she took it. The moment his hand wrapped around hers, she felt a jolt of electricity that almost knocked her to her knees. Memories of him came rushing into her mind. She turned to him with a look of surprise and wonder on her face, but Kieran saw something else. He saw her feelings for him. He saw the same feelings he knew where in his own eyes. Taking her into the building, he shut the door behind them, closing out the people waiting beyond the door.
"It's you." she said. "Your here. Somewhere inside I knew I knew you, but I couldn't figure out why. I only knew that I had to be at this concert tonight."
"I had similar feelings too, all day. Something was bothering me, but I couldn't put my finger on it. The moment I saw you, I almost fainted. I never faint. Then I heard this old woman say that you were here and now it was up to me. I couldn't find her, but all of a sudden I knew you. I knew I had to come and get you."
"Right before you came down I heard a young woman laughing. I'd heard it before, but couldn't figure out why. Now I know. I heard her in a castle, in Scotland. But I've never been to Scotland, Kieran. Then you came out and touched me. Then I knew that I knew you and my memories came back."
Kieran was beaming. With his beautiful brown eyes staring into hers, bent down and touched her lips softly. She gave a little whimper and fell into his chest. He groaned and kissed her deeply. He kissed her until her knees gave and she was clinging to him or else she would fall. He fell instead. They landed on the stairs, still clinging to each other and kissing.
"We need a room, Selena, but right now I have a gig to perform. Please, sit in the front so I can look at you. I have a song I need to sing. I now know it's about you. You've bewitched me. All I want is you. Stay with me tonight, and never leave." Then he put his forehead against hers and looked deeply into her eyes.
"I love you, Selena Hall."
The scene changed. Kieran was standing on a dias with a harp in his hands watching a beautiful woman in white as she approached holding a bouquet of flowers. He began to sing as she walked toward him. A song of love and longing. Of song of his heart. A song of magic. Somewhere behind him an old woman laughed as it turned into the sound of tinkling chimes. His witch girl was finally his, and he was hers.
